The Co-op Live Arena in Manchester plays host on Saturday to an intriguing domestic light-heavyweight clash between Sheffield veteran Liam Cameron and rising Birmingham contender Troy Jones.

Cameron (23-7-1, 10 KO’s), the 35-year-old former Commonwealth super-middleweight champion has endured setbacks both inside and outside the ring. Since returning to action, Cameron has faced tough opposition including a stoppage defeat to flashy Olympic medalist Ben Whittaker earlier this year, but his willingness to take on these challenges speaks volumes about his mentality.

Jones (13-1, 6 KO’s) is eager to show he belongs among Britain’s next wave of light-heavyweights. At 27, Jones carries youth, confidence, and solid fundamentals, and perhaps most importantly, a granite chin.

Liam Cameron vs Troy Jones: Analysis

What Cameron lacks in explosiveness, he makes up for in ring IQ, composure, and body-punching craft. Having logged more than 180 professional rounds, he’ll look to use that experience to frustrate a younger, less-seasoned opponent. The Sheffield man is a pressure boxer by nature, and if he can establish his jab and make it a physical fight on the inside, the veteran could turn this into an uncomfortable night for Jones.

Jones is a tall orthodox boxer at around 6ft1, he uses his reach effectively behind a long jab and looks to control distance before stepping in with sharp combinations. Facing Cameron provides an opportunity to erase any lingering doubts and prove he can handle experienced, battle-tested opposition. Stylistically, Jones will look to keep the fight at mid-range, use his reach advantage, and avoid being drawn into the trenches where Cameron excels.

Cameron’s biggest weapon is his know-how; the ability to adapt mid-fight, find openings, and win rounds through craft rather than speed. Jones, meanwhile, boasts the physical advantages of fresher legs, sharper reflexes, and speed.

Cameron vs Jones: Prediction & Betting Tips

I expect Cameron to apply steady pressure, cutting the ring and working the body early, attempting to slow Jones down and drag him into late-round exchanges. Jones, conversely, will aim to stay disciplined behind his jab, score cleanly, and limit exchanges. If he can maintain range and avoid being backed onto the ropes, the younger man’s cleaner work may sway the judges.

Jones may start brighter, using his reach and movement to control the early exchanges, but Cameron’s pressure and experience could turn the tide as the rounds wear on. The veteran’s timing and ring smarts might just edge it if he can make Jones uncomfortable and keep the tempo high.

I’m taking Liam Cameron to win via decision or technical decision in a very close fight at odds of 3.1.
