Veteran megastar Manny Pacquiao is the latest boxing icon to reflect on the tragic passing of the late Ricky Hatton.

Sharing the ring with the late former world champion Ricky Hatton back in 2009, the decorated Filipino star Manny Pacquiao would come as just another iconic foe the Manchester favorite would share the ring with as part of a gleaming career.

Uniting the partisan English city with his world championship exploits in the ring, Hatton tragically passed away just months out from a planned return to the ring before the year’s end.

And joining a litany of boxing stars to weigh in on Hatton’s tragic death, Pacquiao issued a heartfelt tribute to the late ‘Hitman’.

Manny Pacquiao describes Ricky Hatton as ‘brave’ in emotional tribute

Sharing the ring together before the turn of the last decade, Pacquiao would snatch the IBO and The Ring welterweight titles from Hatton with a blistering second-round knockout win, in what would come as the Stockport puncher’s penultimate ringwalk.

On social media overnight, Pacquiao would issue an emotional tribute to Hatton following his passing, describing the Manchester star as “brave” both in and out of the ring.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Ricky Hatton,” Pacquiao posted on X. He was not only a great fighter inside the ring but also a brave and kind man in life.  We shared unforgettable moments in boxing history, and I will always honor the respect and sportsmanship he showed.

“Ricky fought bravely, not just in the ring, but in his journey through life. He truly had a good fight, and we are all blessed to have been part of his wonderful journey.

“My prayers and deepest condolences go out to the Hatton family and all his loved ones. May the Lord give you strength and comfort in this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

Ricky Hatton’s iconic boxing career

Sharing the ring with countless generational fighters during his pomp in the sport, the late Hatton would fight Pacquiao after previously sharing the squared circle with Floyd Mayweather and a host of other talent.

Beginning his career with a spectacular 43-0 professional record, Hatton landed the WBA welterweight crown during his run, capped with an impressive victory against Luis Collazo in a trip to Boston.

And in his crowning achievement in the sport, Hatton ended the reign of Russian-Australian icon Kostya Tszyu with an eleventh-round stoppage to win the IBF and The Ring light welterweight crown in his native Manchester back in 2005.
