On a day stacked with several must-see combat sport events, Hall-of-Famer Manny Pacquiao made his boxing return after a four year hiatus, which flew under the radar for many.
'Pac Man' made his 73rd walk to the ring as a professional, with his record now sitting at 62-8-3. The Filipino icon will forever be remembered as one of the greatest of all time, but he was also out to make history by becoming the first boxer to capture a world title after being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios welcomed Manny Pacquiao back to the ring for the first time since his unanimous decision defeat to Yordenis Ugas in 2021. Despite fighting five times during the time Pacquiao has been away from the sport, it didn't help Barrios overcome the gritty veteran.
Pacquiao found success in his return bout, surprising most who tuned in to watch the legend. The 46-year-old entered the fight as an underdog but shocked the world with his performance, seemingly rolling back the years with a vintage showcase.
While most believed he deserved to get his hand raised and be crowned the new WBC welterweight king, Pacquiao had to settle for a majority draw against Mario Barrios, who is 16 years his younger.
The official result saw judges score the bout 114-114 x2, 115-113 Barrios.
Retirement doesn't seem like the next option for Manny Pacquiao, who publicly confirmed his hope of a rematch with Mario Barrios following their razor-close clash.
