On February 21, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) headlines The Ring: High Stakes fight card. They will meet for Barrios’ WBC welterweight title, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Ahead of this world title showdown, Barrios recently discussed his preparations and his promise of war on fight night.
Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) is the reigning WBC welterweight champion, having defended the title twice with two draws against Abel Ramos and Manny Pacquiao. For this camp, Barrios has brought in Ryan Garcia’s former trainer Joe Goossen.
Barrios was clear about Goossen’s impact when talking about his camp:
“Working with Joe Goossen has brought a whole new level to my game,” said Barrios. “His experience, the way he sees the ring, it’s been a huge advantage. Every session, he’s pushing me to refine my strengths and fix every small mistake. I’ve grown more as a fighter in this camp and I’m ready to bring a war to Ryan Garcia.”
Barrios also revealed his respect for Garcia, but feels his experience will be too much for the challenger on fight night:
“I give Ryan credit—he’s fast, he’s dangerous, and he’s hungry,” Barrios stated. “But I’ve been in deep waters before, and I know how to stay composed and break my opponents down. This fight is about proving that I’m not just a champion—I’m one of the best in the world at 147. Garcia has power, but I’ve seen it all in the ring. I’m ready to go through fire to keep what’s mine.”
