Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao Set for July 19 in Las Vegas

Amir Khan Reveals His Insights on Pacquiao’s Chances

Pacquiao’s return at the age of 46 has been a major talking point in the world of boxing. Despite his achievements, because of his age and inactivity, many believe he shouldn’t be returning and should not be allowed to go straight into a world title fight with Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs). The criticism around Pacquiao’s return is not just because of his age, it’s partly because of his poor performance against Ugas and his performance in a July 2024 exhibition against Rukiya Anpo.

The bout had been rumoured for several weeks and was confirmed when “Pac Man” tweeted: “I’m back. On July 19, I return to the ring to face WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.”

It was also confirmed that Pacquiao will reunite with Freddie Roach and assistant trainers Marvin Somodio and Buboy Fernandez, along with longtime publicist and Hall of Famer Fred Sternburg.

Former WBC super lightweight world champion Amir Khan recently spoke to iFL TV about Pacquaio vs Barrios: “What a perfect match-up that is for Manny Pacquiao. Look, I sparred Barrios, I’ve trained with Barrios, he used to train with Virgil [Hunter] back in the day,” said Khan.

“A very good fighter, a very good boxer, he’s not dangerous enough for someone like Manny Pacquiao, he’s not a hard, hard fight, he’s basic but he’s good at his basic stuff. For Manny, I think it’s a great fight. It’s a fight that’s winnable even if he’s had half a hard camp,” added Khan.
