Masvidal Warns Jake Paul Over A PFL Fight – ‘I Would Kick Your Kneecap Off’

“Listen [Jake], the UFC doesn’t like [you]. Dana White, don’t like… you…They said ‘We’re not going to let you make money with this guy,’ because at the end of the day, we’re partners. Me and Nate, we’re going to make money right now.

“Jake runs up on me somewhere else where it’s not a ring or something you can find out bro. You’re talking about the PFL…[What] are you going to do in MMA? Are you kidding me? You can’t even box. Now you’re going to fight in MMA? I would kick your…kneecap off your fragile body,” Masvidal said 

Masvidal’s frustration was not just reserved for Paul. He singled out Diaz for making it difficult to conclude the negotiations for the fight. They have faced off on one occasion at UFC 244 in 2019. Masvidal won the fight after the ringside doctor under the New York State Athletic Commission stopped the fight at the end of the third round. This was after Diaz suffered a cut over his eye.

Masvidal accused Diaz of demanding the boxing fight in Vegas and being treated as the A-side. This was despite Masvidal having beaten him. While Masvidal agreed to those terms, he was not happy with Diaz’s insistence on fighting on June 1. UFC 301, featuring Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier as the headline event, is on the same day. Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol also takes place on that date in the boxing’s Undisputed Light Heavyweight. Masvidal was clear that these measures did not help promote the fight.

“At one point, because Vegas was booked out, a lot of places were booked out, New York was a strong possibility and he was like, ‘I won’t fight if it’s in New York. I won’t fight.’ I was like, what…What’s the beef? This is boxing. That was in MMA [where]. But I get it. Alright.

“Even with this date, we could have pushed it back a week once the UFC announced they’re going to go June 1. And I was willing to go Memorial [Day] weekend, the weekend before, but he was like, ‘No, I already announced on my Instagram we’re fighting on this day.We’ll go head-to-head with them.’ That’s just not good business,” Masvidal added
