The Floyd Mayweather (50-0) vs. Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3) is official, as the pair will face off in a pro fight on September 19.
The fight will take place from The Sphere in Las Vegas and air globally on Netflix’s 325 million subscribers. The announcement coincides with Mayweather’s 49th birthday and follows his recent decision to officially end his nine-year retirement from competitive boxing. Under a new partnership with CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®, Mayweather is pursuing a professional comeback that begins with a spring exhibition against Mike Tyson.
Pacquiao, now 47, is equally motivated. Having recently fought to a majority draw against Mario Barrios, the Filipino views the September date as a chance to avenge the unanimous decision loss in their 2015 “Fight of the Century.” That fight generated over $600 million in revenue and 4.6 million PPV buys, as both fighters were ready to do battle again.
“I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” Mayweather
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines,” Pacquiao
“Earlier in my career, I spent weeks in Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s training camps in Las Vegas and the Philippines. It was undeniable that they were the two hardest workers in boxing, and their wins and accolades were a product of that. Bringing this rematch to Netflix is a massive ‘full-circle’ moment. We’re thrilled to combine their storied rivalry with the immersive technology of Sphere to deliver a landmark sporting event to our members worldwide,” Gabe Spitzer (vice president of sports at Netflix)
