Mike Tyson has dropped a revelation about his anticipated exhibition match against Floyd Mayweather, saying it will take place in March 2026 in Africa.

Tyson, 59, last stepped into the ring for an exhibition against Jake Paul in November 2024. Meanwhile, Mayweather, 48, retired from professional competition with a perfect 50-0 record after beating Conor McGregor in 2017. Since then, he has had numerous exhibitions the latest of which was against John Gotti III. When Tyson was asked about his next opponent, Tyson confirmed that Mayweather is his next.

Should It Happen?

The choice of Africa means the event will shine a massive global spotlight on the African continent, potentially attracting huge investments, tourism, and attention to local boxing. The scale of the media coverage and infrastructure required for a Mayweather/Tyson event could leave a lasting legacy for future boxing or sporting events in the region.

As a purely commercial event, this is guaranteed to be a blockbuster event. Even in an exhibition setting, the mere presence of these legends satisfies a profound fan curiosity and generates enormous buzz, drawing in casual viewers who rarely watch professional boxing. The event will generate big revenue, providing a huge payday for both fighters, which is often the main reason for these exhibitions.

However, Tyson’s age and health are the most significant concern. At 59, and pushing his body through the rigors of a training camp and an exhibition, it carries a risk of serious injury. The size difference means that even a diminished Tyson’s punch carries far more weight than anything Mayweather has trained to absorb, creating a danger in the ring.
