Neither Mike Tyson or Jake Paul has revealed the full financial details of the purse for the marquee fight on Netflix, but the stars have given some indication of the lucrative amount of money. It is unclear whether the winner will make additional money, but the early indications are Paul will earn more than Tyson for the fight.
According to DraftKings' Ryan Wohl, Tyson is estimated to earn in the $20 million range for the fight with Paul to potentially net double this amount. This is a large amount of money for a 58-year-old boxer who has been retired since 2005.
"The exact amount Tyson is making is unknown, but his friend, former UFC champion Henry Cejudo, said he expects Tyson to make around $20 million for the fight," Wohl wrote on Nov. 13.
"Even though Tyson is the bigger superstar, Paul is expected to make $40 million. Paul has helped put this event together as the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions."
USA Today's Mark Giannotto also reported that Tyson is estimated to be making about $20 million for the fight. Paul may have slipped and revealed his actual purse payout during an August press conference.
“I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend," Paul said during an Aug. 18 presser.
It is unclear whether Paul would make this $40 million if he wins, or if this is a flat rate for stepping in the ring. The fight is lucrative for both boxers with Netflix purchasing the live event rights and offering the match for free to subscribers.
Regardless, both Tyson and Paul are being well compensated for the fight.
