Mike Tyson has provided an update regarding his potential fight against Floyd Mayweather.
At the end of last year, it was bizarrely announced that Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather would fight in an exhibition boxing match.
Soon after, Tyson revealed that the exhibition was set to take place in Africa, in the Congo, with a date of April 25 seemingly confirmed.
Despite that, the status of the fight was sent into question when Mayweather booked another exhibition fight followed by a pro rematch against Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather will take on Mike Zambidis in an exhibition on June 27, followed by his fight against Pacquiao, leaving a gap in between.
And with that, Tyson has revealed that he is still scheduled to take on ‘Money’ Mayweather, despite describing a current injury which has him in a cast.
“Ay, listen, that’s something I signed for already, it’s already going down, it’s gonna be going down in Africa,” Tyson told The Ariel Helwani Show.
“I believe so (that it is happening on April 25)… It’s just free fighting, catchweight, everything, eight (rounds) I believe.”
The former undisputed heavyweight king went on to reveal that the fight will take place in the same ring that Muhammad Ali and George Foreman clashed in for their legendary Rumble in the Jungle fight in 1974.
“It’s gonna be pretty interesting, I’m looking forward to it, yes. Yes, I was over there and it’s gonna be in the same ring that Muhammad Ali and George Foreman was in, yes (the exact same ring), yes.”
The Rumble in the Jungle is arguably the most legendary combat sports fight of all time and it is remembered by combat sports fans around the world to this day.
