On August 16, heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma will face the seasoned veteran Dillian Whyte in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as boxing pros gave their predictions.
Itauma (12-0, 10 KOs) has been on an impressive streak, winning his last eight bouts by first or second-round stoppages, most recently taking out Mike Balogun in just the first round in May. Itauma has shown rapid progression, with many touting him as a future world champion. A win over Whyte would be the biggest win on his resume against a former WBC Interim Heavyweight Champion.
Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) is now 37 years old. While he has boxed for world titles, Whyte has come up short against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Despite a brief suspension due to a failed drug test (from which he was later cleared), Whyte made a strong return to the ring with stoppage wins over Christian Hammer and Ebenezer Tetteh. Here is how boxing pros saw the fight playing out.
“There ain’t no light at the end of that tunnel.” Derek Chisora (heavyweight boxer) (Itauma by KO)
“I think he’s a very neat and tidy boxer, Moses, clearly punches hard, fastest hands in the heavyweight division, I think. I think it could be an early night,” Carl Frampton (former world champion) (Itauma by KO)
“I think Moses Itauma is a sensational talent. […] Dillian is at the end of his career and he’s always had vulnerabilities there but he’s always had that tenacity to pull something out of the bag. You can never write him off. I just think it’s very good matchmaking on their behalf,” Shane McGuigan (world-class boxing trainer) Itauma wins
“Dillian, in my opinion, is at the end. […] He’s being paid a king’s ransom to go in there and be dealt with,” Tony Bellew (former world champion) Itauma by KO
