Navarrete Vs. Suarez – Things To Consider
Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images

Emanuel Navarrete and Charly Suarez face off in their WBO Junior Lightweight Title fight on Saturday, as we look at how the fight could play out.

Navarrete puts his WBO belt on the line, having stopped Oscar Valdez in their rematch in his previous bout. The champion moved back down to 130 after going up to lightweight to face off against Denys Berinchyk. However, Navarrete was unable to dethrone the champion, as he suffered a loss.

This time, a win over Suarez moves him closer to unifying against O’Shaquie Foster or the winner of Angelo Leo vs Tomoki Kameda. Meanwhile, Suarez has a perfect record of 18-0. He defeated Jorge Castaneda in his previous fight. However, he does not possess Navarrete’s KO power. Saurez has only secured three knockouts in his last eight fights, while Navarrete has 32 stoppages in 39 wins.

Navarrete is known for putting pressure on his opponents from the earlier rounds. Saurez is known for taking his time, as he looks to counter with shots. Saurez has an extensive amateur record, but at 36, he is at the tail end of his career. Saurez has shown he can stop his opponents, having done so emphatically against Castaneda.

Navarrete Reacts

Navarrete is the more explosive fighter, with a better resume. He has big wins against Eduardo Baez, Christopher Diaz, Oscar Valdez and Liam Wilson. He has racked up a 76 percent KO rate, having stopped three out of his last six opponents. Navarrete is a three-weight world champion with over 40 fights, while Saurez only has 18 bouts. The pair were ready to deliver, as they were ready to perform.

“I’m at a new stage of my career, and I’m fired up for another defense of my world title. This fight motivates me. Suarez is undefeated and dangerous. He’s ranked No. 1 in the world for a reason. He’s exactly the kind of challenge that fuels me. I owe the fans in San Diego a win, and on 10 May, I’ll settle that debt with a dominant victory,” Navarrete said

“I am thankful to Top Rank for this opportunity.  When I enter the ring on May 10, I will show the world I have what it takes. I won’t waste this opportunity. Navarrete is a monster in the ring, but I know I am better,” Saurez stated
