We are just under two months away from the biggest boxing event since Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor in 2017. Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) will take on Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) on November 15 from AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX, live on Netflix. Speaking of the streaming service, they formally announced today that they will release a three-part series titled Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, with the first two episodes premiering on November 7. The third episode will premiere on November 12, just days before the mega event, which will be streamed worldwide.
In a press release from Netflix, the streaming company said, “The documentary series will take viewers behind-the-scenes of Paul and Tyson’s respective training camps to capture the incredible grit, determination and physical demands needed to prepare for what will be an explosive, can’t miss professional boxing mega-event. COUNTDOWN will also follow the lead up to one of the most anticipated women’s fights in history, the rematch between undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) and unified featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs), as the two train to face off for the undisputed super lightweight championship title in the co-main event.“
There is no question that this event won’t be heavily view worldwide. With the anticipation slowly building as it was for the original date in July that was rescheduled due to a Tyson medical issue, Netflix is now confidentially going all in with their marketing plan. We have all seen how HBO, Showtime, Prime Video & DAZN have done these shoulder programs. The intriguing part is seeing how Netflix will approach this series as it will be a first, and those in the credits (Directors Tim Mullen & Jackie Decker) aren’t known for putting together boxing-related products. Regardless, this series will be heavily consumed, and how it delivers will either help or hurt to promote the fight on November 15.
