On August 16, Nick Ball will defend his WBA Featherweight Title against the undefeated Sam Goodman, as fans gave their picks.

Ball (20-1, 12 KOs) is coming off a strong run since claiming the title on June 1, 2024, when he defeated Raymond Ford via a split decision. Since then, Ball has successfully defended his belt twice, with victories over Ronny Rios and TJ Doheny.

Goodman (20-0, 8 KOs), who is still undefeated, has made a name for himself with impressive wins in 2024-2025, including victories over Mark Schleibs, Thachtana Luangphon, and Cesar Vaca Espinoza. Although Goodman’s knockout count is relatively modest, his undefeated record and strong recent form have made him a serious challenger for Ball’s title.

Pre-Fight

“In boxing it’s helped me, everyone’s underestimated me, and I’ve been the underdog in a few fights. In my career when I first had the chance to get my break, I was the underdog in that fight, overcome it and show that’s not the case. I prefer to fight someone tall, rangy. We’re small, compact and harder to hit, less of a target and it works in my favour,” Ball said

“Undisputed is the pinnacle – that’s what they all want to get to. You can’t replace that. But a chance at the world title – a world title that he can win. He’s less of an underdog against Nick Ball, but being an underdog has never deterred Sam Goodman. Most Aussie fighters, when you’re stepping on to the world stage, you’re seen as an underdog because you come from a small country down the bottom of the globe, who’s stepping in to take on these champions who come from big countries who have fought great opposition to get to where they’re at. They’re always going to be an underdog,” George Rose (Goodman’s promoter) stated
