On Saturday, August 3 at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) created history by winning the WBA super welterweight title, which meant he won a world title in a fourth division. The bout was the main event on pay-per-view on ESPN+, DAZN and Prime Video. Those in the United Kingdom could also do the same with TNT Sports Box Office. DAZN and PPV.com also carried the action for the rest of the world. Many in the boxing world are calling for “Bud” to face Jaron “Boots” Ennis, and Crawford’s trainer Brian “Bomac” Mcintyre has appeared on a recent Andre Ward All The Smoke Fight podcast episode and spoke about Ennis’ ability to compete with the Omaha native.
Ennis has repeatedly asked for the fight against “Bud,” with Crawford seemingly not wanting to face Ennis now. When asked about the talent of Ennis, McIntyre made it clear he sees the talent: “Can he fight? Yeah, he can fight, Bomac told Andre Ward.” He continued: “Is he going to be at the pinnacle one day? I’m sure he will.”
McIntyre, despite praising the potential of the Philadelphia native, does not believe he is ready to face the new WBA super welterweight champion: “No, he’s not ready for Terence.” He added: “Hell no.”
After revealing to Ward on his podcast that he feels Ennis isn’t ready for Crawford, McIntyre was then asked for specifics as to why he feels this way: Crawford’s trainer revealed he feels the Philly fighter “makes too many mistakes.” He continued: “He gets hit with too many stuff that he shouldn’t get hit with.”
“Bomac” added: “I understand he takes the chances but you gotta be smart in there, young fella. If you get cracked with one of them with power on it, you’re gonna feel it. You ain’t gonna walk through that. So that’s how I look at it.”
