Oleksandr Usyk’s manager has provided an update on when the Ukrainian’s potential clash against Deontay Wilder could take place.
In 2025, Oleksandr Usyk only fought once in the boxing ring when he knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their rematch.
Following that clash, rumors surfaced that the Ukrainian may retire from the sport after having somewhat cleared out the heavyweight division.
Despite that, rumors were quickly shut down and the former undisputed heavyweight champion revealed that he would like to take on former heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder.
A few weeks ago it was announced that Usyk had dropped his WBO heavyweight title, subsequently losing his undisputed status.
Not long after that, the 38-year-old revealed that he would like to take on ‘The Bronze Bomber’, labeling him ‘one of the greatest heavyweights of the last 10 years’.
And when he was in attendance Night of the Samurai last week, Usyk was once again asked who he would like to fight next, in which he doubled down on Wilder.
Providing an update on the potential clash, Usyk’s manager Egis Kimas told The National: “It’s very likely (we will see Usyk vs Wilder). Because right now we’re working on it, and we’re working on some multi-fight agreement for Oleksandr.
“As soon as we’re going to confirm that, we’re going to jump in. And some talks are already going on with the team of Wilder. We’re looking at Las Vegas or Los Angeles, and the dates are the end of April, beginning of May.”
The Ukrainian hasn’t fought Stateside since 2019 when he took on Chazz Witherspoon in his first heavyweight fight.
Picking Wilder, though, comes as quite a surprise considering his recent form. The 40-year-old is 2-3 in his last five fights with losses against Zhilei Zhang, Joseph Parker, and Tyson Fury.
At 38 years old, it is likely that Usyk only has a few more fights left in him, at the most.
Having already cleared out the majority of the heavyweight division, there wouldn’t be many challenges left for Usyk in the sport, and retirement following a clash with Wilder would be likely.
