Omar Trinidad To The Champions At Featherweight: ‘See Ya Soon’

The featherweight division has been heating up lately, and one fighter chomping at the bit for a title shot is 29-year-old undefeated contender Omar Trinidad. He faces veteran Alexander Espinoza (23-6-3, 8 KOs) as the co-main, Saturday night, live from the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, CA, streaming on UFC Fight Pass.

Although Trinidad (18-0-1 13 KOs) has his sights set on Saturday night, he is ranked #5 with the WBC, #8 with the WBO, #8 with the WBA, and #2 with the IBF so it’s safe to say that his title opportunity is coming soon. For the champions tuning into his fight on Saturday, Trinidad has a clear message “See ya soon,” said Trinidad.

Patiently Waiting

One thing Trinidad doesn’t have to worry about is staying busy, as his promoter Tom Loeffler continues to do book him as often as possible. Coming off a year where he stepped into the ring three times, Trinidad is already heading into his second fight of 2025, and we haven’t even reached the summer.

Activity is great as there are dozens of examples, especially these days, where fighters barely step into the ring once a year. Trinidad has been busy, which has seen him shoot up the ranks, but he is at a point where fans and media alike want to see him face the top names in the division. The current champions either have a fight scheduled, are coming off a recent fight, or are considering moving up to 130. That leaves Loeffler to find creative ways to keep his fighter busy as he tries to secure a title shot for him.

Trinidad is well aware of the perception out there, and it’s been part of an ongoing conversation with his promoter. “We’ve been talking about fights and seeing our options and the best route to go, whether the IBF or WBC,” Trinidad told FightsATW. “Whatever they (360 Promotions) offer me, I take. Don’t get me wrong, I want those big fights as I’ve been hearing a couple of things around the corner.”

Trinidad continued, “Regarding the fights, I’ve been calling out these guys and trying to get the word out and saying ‘Where’s (Angelo) Leo at’? I know he has a dance partner in Japan, and hopefully, he takes care of business. I know sooner or later I’ll get my shot at that belt (IBF), or if not, we’ll go through the WBC and take our shot there. All we can do is go fight by fight, stay at the gym, develop, and hopefully get the call or get to call somebody out.”

Trinidad Looks To Give The Fans Their Pound of Flesh

Trinidad’s opponent on Saturday is 32-year-old Espinoza from Managua, Nicaragua. He doesn’t have a sexy record but when you look at his BoxRec, he’s shared the ring with Peter McGrail and Andrew Moloney which is the type of experience Trinidad needs if he is going to compete with the next level contenders and champions. It’s a tough fight for Trinidad, but he looks to do what he has done up to this point: deliver a fan-friendly performance.

What should fans expect when they walk into the Commerce Casino on Saturday night, or those who will stream it on UFC Fight Pass? “A great night of boxing,” said Trinidad confidently. “I’ve been trying to sit down on my punches more so this time, I’m going to bring back my knockout streak.”

It’s tough to say what 360 Promotions has with Trinidad as we haven’t seen him in with the division’s top names. All we can do is evaluate him based on his recent performances, so on Saturday night, how Trinidad looks will determine the excitement level fans will have moving forward regarding Trinidad’s potential.
