Oscar Duarte (29-2-1, 23 KOs) and Kenneth Sims Jr. (22-2-1, 8 KOs) will soon face each other in a 12-round super lightweight clash.
Their bout headlines a Golden Boy Promotions card – in association with Cancun Boxing – at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, IL. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN.
Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their August 2 fight. Below is some of what they had to say.
“I am so happy and excited to be here in Chicago,” said Duarte. “I want to thank my team for the excellent training camp. Thank you to Oscar [De La Hoya] and the Golden Boy team for all their support.”
“This is going to be a great fight, we are going to give a great show. The people of Chicago are in for a treat, and I know I will have the Latino community rooting for me!”
“I didn’t like the trolling that his team did last year,” said Sims. “It takes a lot to get to me. He was bothering me, so I was bothering him. We have to fight anyways.”
“We’re both ranked top five in the world. The best vs. the best. But this is my city, so I am going to whoop his ass.”
Duarte is the one who has had better success in getting stoppages, but Sims can take this the distance. Being able to go 12 rounds will favour the American, who should be able to outbox his opponent for long stretches of the fight. Duarte will be looking for a stoppage for the duration of the contest. As long as Sims chooses to box rather than exchange at close range, he should get the win. Expect a unanimous decision victory for the American.
