Joseph Parker, the WBO Interim Heavyweight champion, takes on Fabio Wardley this weekend, as we look at how the fight will play out.

Parker steps into the ring, showcasing the best form of his career. The New Zealander has a six-fight winning streak coming into this bout. In his last three outings alone, Parker has dismantled top-tier heavyweights. He scored a dominant unanimous decision over Deontay Wilder, outboxed Zhilei Zhang, and most recently got a devastating knockout of the Martin Bakole in February.

Wardley’s recent performances demonstrate his power is for real. He’s notched back-to-back stoppage victories, most notably with a spectacular knockout of Justis Huni in June. Before that, he settled his rivalry with fellow Brit Frazer Clarke via knockout in October 2024. Wardley is riding a wave of confidence, determined to prove he belongs in the world-title picture.

The Approach

Parker’s path to victory lies in a disciplined boxing performance centered on movement and counter-punching. Drawing on his success against power punchers like Deontay Wilder, Parker will utilize a fast, snapping jab to maintain range, disrupt Wardley’s rhythm, and prevent the challenger from setting his feet for lethal shots. Crucially, Parker must employ constant lateral movement, changing angles after every exchange to avoid being a static target.

Conversely, Wardley cannot win a long-range boxing match against Parker and must use his significant power advantage. His primary goal is to close the distance quickly and force Parker to fight with his back to the ropes or in the pocket. Wardley will need to mix his power shots to the head with heavy attacks to the body, aiming to slow Parker’s footwork and drain his conditioning over the middle rounds. The success of Wardley’s pressure game depends on his ability to shrug off Parker’s jabs and find the fight-ending shot.
