Talk of a Joseph Parker vs. Dillian Whyte rematch is gaining traction.
Parker, the current WBO Interim Heavyweight Champion, is in line to face the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois. However, a fight with Whyte would be perfect for keeping him active. Parker’s promoter, Frank Warren, hinted that Parker might return in September. Parker faced Whyte in 2018, as the latter won a decision. Since then, Parker has beaten Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, and Martin Bakole. Whyte is expected to fight on the undercard of Fabio Wardley vs. Justis Huni next month. However, with no opponent lined up, Parker vs. Whyte has been suggested.
“For Dillian Whyte he is looking to get his career back on track and get in the big fights. A great opportunity is against Joseph Parker, he is struggling to get a fight – run that [fight] back. Parker has that momentum, the motivation for Parker is that he can’t get any other fight. He is going to need some sort of tune-up, Dillian is that prime name and he holds a victory over him. I know people would think, ‘what’s in it for Joseph?’ Well, it’s a good fight,” Spencer Oliver said
Parker could equally sit and wait for the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois. They face off for the Undisputed Heavyweight Title, giving Parker a chance to win all the belts. There is a scenario where Usyk wins and vacates his belt like he did after beating Fury. That made Dubois the IBF Heavyweight Champion since he was the mandatory. Parker may benefit from the same happening with the WBO.
There is a chance of this happening as Usyk said he would like to rematch Anthony Joshua or Fury once more. Equally, if Dubois comes out on top, that fight is still feasible. They were set to face off in February, only for Dubois to pull out with an injury. Bakole took his place as Parker stopped his man, leaving Dubois to secure the Usyk fight. Given Warren promotes Parker and Dubois that is a fight which can be made. Dubois still wants that bout.
“I want to fight Parker definitely and hopefully Turki [Alalshikh, the head of Riyadh Season and chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority] might hear this and make it happen in England, make it happen in Wembley or something. I definitely want to fight Parker,” Dubois stated
