Armando Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs) continues the year of the underdog as he scored the huge split decision upset over Caleb Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) in the main event on Prime Video.

Although Resendiz dominated throughout the fight, the judges could not come to an agreement, making it a split decision. The scorecards were as follows: 116-112 for Resendiz, 115-113 for Plant, and 116-112 for Resendiz, making him the winner and new interim WBA super middleweight champion.

According to CompuBox, “Resendiz landed 186 of 600 total punches while Plant went 108 of 509. Resendiz held a 109 to 70 connect advantage in power punches.”

In the opening round, Plant began his offense with the left jab and followed it with an overhand right. Plant kept the fight outside of mid-range, which didn’t bode well for Resendiz, who could not land anything significant.

It was more Plant in the second round as he changed the levels of his left jab while also sneaking in a left hook to the body of Resendiz. While Plant was having his way, Resendiz was getting closer to Plant and landed a few hard shots, but not enough to stop Plant from landing his left jab.

In the third round, Resendiz got close enough to Plant and was able to land a huge overhand right that buzzed him. Resendiz was able to cut off the ring successfully, which allowed him to land the offense he was unable to in the rounds prior.

More of the same in the fourth by Resendiz, but in the fifth round, Plant was able to keep his distance, but it was short-lived as Resendiz began to land body shots that began to give Plant some issues. Plant appeared buzzed after a few of the body shots by Resendiz.

In the sixth round, Resendiz continued throwing his body shots, which slowed Plant down. Towards the end of the round, Resendiz landed a huge overhand right that hurt Plant and forced him to hold on to Resendiz as long as possible. The bell saved Plant from potentially being knocked down.

Resendiz had another strong round in the seventh as Plant seemed still bothered by the overhand right from the round prior. Plant could not keep his distance, which allowed Resendiz to come through the front door more than he was able to during the first six rounds. Resendiz continued to dominate on the inside throughout the eighth and ninth rounds.

Resendiz was using suffocating pressure, which left Plant vulnerable to his huge body shots. Plant couldn’t pull the trigger on his punches throughout the tenth round. Resendiz continued his pressure throughout the 11th as Plant tried desperately to land something big, but he just couldn’t. In the last round, Resendiz closed the show with his pressure and crushing body shots, leaving Plant as a fighter who was systematically broken down.
