There has been noticeable tension due to some back and forth in the build-up to this match between Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price and it has not gone unrecognized by Jonas.
The two fighters will be facing each other on Friday 7th of March 2025 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Both fighters are good ambassadors of the sport and this match-up could result in a fight of the year contender.
With all the hype surrounding this match, both fighters have pledged to pay attention to the big picture which is to win the bout. Natasha Jonas (16-2-1, 9 KOs), who hails from Liverpool, is currently the IBF and WBC welterweight champion while Lauren Price (8-0, 2 KOs), from Cardiff, is the current WBA champion.
Lauren Price, 30 years old, has not lost a single round as a pro. This has given her the motivation and confidence to face the fight with a possibility of winning in her sights.
“It is a great fight. I am proud to be part of it. I am in a great place, mentally and physically. The outside noise is irrelevant and when the bell goes, may the best woman win,” said Price.
When asked on how she would handle it if she found herself in a situation where she lost rounds and possibly momentum, she had a few words to say.
“I have had a good camp and I have stayed cool, calm and collected but if that happens, stay cool, go back to the corner and take instructions. I believe in myself, I believe I am the better woman and I will win this fight. I respect Tasha, I have said that all along. I just believe in myself and I will show everyone on Friday night how good I am,” said Price.
On the other hand, Natasha Jonas also had something to say when asked about all the hype around this back and forth with her opponent.
“There is a little bit more behind this one. I want to prove myself. I am a bit too long tooth to be bothered by social media and boxing fans. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some of them are valid and some of them are not.
“It is just another fight; I am not trying to put pressure on myself and build it into anything. When we get in the ring, none of the other noise matters and the best woman will win,” said Jonas.
Price, an Olympic gold medalist and the current WBA welterweight world champion, is just eight fights into her professional career but she has a lot of confidence warning that she will be “too quick, too good and too young” for her opponent.
While Jonas believes her “experience, accuracy, timing and boxing IQ is why she wins” and this will make her prepared and ready for what Price will bring.
Joe Gallagher, Jonas’ trainer, did not shy off in sharing his thoughts. “I can’t wait till after the fight when we can say we were too old, too slow and too good. You just can’t buy that bit of experience. You can’t beat experience in the ring. That’s what is going to happen,” said Gallagher.
Rob McCracken, Price’s trainer, also shared his thoughts. “This is Lauren’s challenge. Natasha is the best opponent she’s fought as a professional and you’ve got to challenge yourself as a professional. It’s ambition, it’s belief and she’s got to step up and she understands that. She’s at her peak and she’s ready,” said McCracken.
