The long-awaited biopic Giant officially makes its debut in UK cinemas today, January 9, 2026, bringing the story of “Prince” Naseem Hamed to the big screen.

Produced by Sylvester Stallone, the film is set for a North American release this March via Vertical. The narrative focuses on the relationship with his mentor, the late Brendan Ingle, who first trained Hamed at the age of seven to help him combat racist bullying in Sheffield.

Pierce Brosnan stars as Ingle, undergoing a significant physical transformation with prosthetics and white hair. Amir El-Masry takes on the role of the adult Hamed, capturing the fighter’s showmanship. The film also features brothers Ghaith and Ali Saleh to portray Hamed at ages seven and twelve, respectively, while Toby Stephens stars as promoter Frank Warren.

The heart of the movie lies in the story between trainer and student, detailing how their unbreakable bond began to dissolve. It highlights the pivotal moment when Hamed moved away from Ingle’s unorthodox, defensive fundamentals to work with Detroit’s Emanuel Steward—a shift that many observers believe led to the eventual decline of the three-division world champion.

Reaction

“It’s all scripted. I won’t say I hate to say it, because I don’t – but 80-90 per cent of the film is just made up. “It’s an interpretation of what the directors and writers wanted to say to get some interest. “I am not that person, to go through everything that is wrong with the film and everything that is far from the truth and what really happened. It’s just strange for me to watch a film about me and my trainer – and our relationship – and so much not be covered or true.

“But it’s a film and – if you wake up and hear Pierce Brosnan and Sylvester Stallone are doing a film about your life – you think it’s great, so I am going to embrace it. But watch what’s coming next – because I’m going to do a documentary series that, God willing, will be even better than The Last Dance, With Michael Jordan. Mark Wahlberg is the person that’s desperate to do it and he loves boxing. “So I will use this film as a springboard to see where we can go with it,” Hamed stated

Further Reaction

“It has been my dream and ambition to bring Giant to the cinema screen for many years. The story of Prince Naseem Hamed and his tempestuous relationship with fabled boxing trainer Brendan Ingle is the stuff of legend. Hilarious, heartbreaking and cinematically thrilling, it’s been such a pleasure to bring this to life with a truly iconic actor in Pierce Brosnan.

“It has been wonderful to make this film with the support of Sylvester Stallone and his Balboa Productions behind the camera. I look forward to working with the Vertical team to bring this film to audiences in the U.S. and with True Brit in the U.K,” Rowan Athale (writer and director) said
