Ricardo Malajika Vs. Jayson Mama Preview

Ricardo Malajika takes on Jayson Mama  in a defense of his IBO super-flyweight title on August 9, as we preview this upcoming fight. 

Malajika has won his last seven fights during which he won the IBO flyweight and super flyweight belts. He secured the IBO super flyweight belt against Marcel Braithwaite, while claiming the IBO flyweight title against Jackson Chauke in his last fight. 

Mama arrives into the fight, knowing he fell short of a world title in his last attempt. He took on Sunny Edwards for the IBF Flyweight Title in 2021. However, he came up short in a unanimous decision defeat. Since that loss, he has bounced back much stronger. Mama has won four from his next six fights, as he is coming off a technical draw against Michael Bravo.

Pre-Fight

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to compete for the IBO world title. I am dedicated to training rigorously and fighting with everything I’ve got. My ultimate goal is to bring the belt home to the Philippines and make my country proud,” Mama said

“I want to be five-time world champion, so wherever the opportunity is, I’ll grab it. It’s about sacrifices…I believe he’s (Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez) the best, but he hasn’t fought me yet, so we can’t say he’s the best. I feel like I’m the best [Laughs] The only way to find out is me and him in the ring. Anybody, anybody who wants to fight me, I’m ready, my coach is ready, you can call me 2 hours and say the fight is in one hour and we’ll pick up and be ready to go. Even if it’s a heavyweight,” Malajika stated
