Ricky Hatton Would Have Stopped Amir Khan

Ricky Hatton alongside his rival Amir Khan both boxed at super lightweight as well as welterweight. While speaking to Casino Beats, former world champion George Groves has revealed who he thinks would have won the fight.

“Best for best, I can't see Hatton getting beat. Amir Khan had lightning-fast hands, like ridiculously fast hands. Very fast feet. But Ricky Hatton was like a little pro fighter from the get-go. Amazingly brought on, developed, and then, when he finally broke through beating Kostya Tszyu, he was a real force. I think if those two fought, I think Hatton would be able to chop him down. Catch him, and the vulnerability to Khan would always be a question mark. I’d go with Hatton. I think he could stop him,” said George Groves during an interview with Casino Beats.

However, the prospect of them fighting never culminated in anything more than rumors and speculation. The match between the 'Hitman' and Khan never materialized.

Both boxers enjoyed memorable careers that enabled their legacy to continue to be enjoyed and withstand the test of time. A former super-lightweight alongside welterweight world titlist, Hatton hit the pinnacle of his boxing career in 2005 when he resisted the odds to outmaneuver Kostya Tszyu.

That magnificent June night in Manchester sealed the Mancunian's acumen as one of the very best globally, with success and riches duly attached.

Nonetheless, Hatton suffered devastating defeats to future Hall of Famers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2007 as well as 2009, respectively. Meanwhile, Khan also encountered turmoil in his career after winding up 2008 on his backside courtesy of Breidis Prescott.

Khan obtained a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. This achievement came before he turned professional in 2005. His most remarkable victories came against Andreas Kotelnik, Dmitry Salita, Paulie Malignaggi, as well as, most profoundly, Marcos Maidana.
