By joining forces with British boxing icon Ricky Hatton, unbeaten UK cruiserweight John Hedges has taken a significant step forward in his career.

The former world champion is now mentoring the 21-year-old prodigy, who goes by The Gentleman in the ring, as he attempts to advance through one of the sport's most demanding divisions.

Hedges, who boasts a perfect record of 10 wins with 3 of those coming by knockout, recently parted ways with experienced trainer Mark Tibbs. The decision signals a shift in direction for the Essex-born fighter, who will now base his training camp in Manchester with Hatton at the helm. The link-up with Hatton, a Hall of Famer and fan favorite, brings a wealth of experience and fight knowledge to Hedges' corner.

Hatton, a former light-welterweight and welterweight world champion, is known for his relentless fighting style and tactical mind, qualities that could greatly benefit the tall and rangy cruiserweight as he develops his professional craft. Still, early in his career, Hedges has shown flashes of skill, composure, and movement that set him apart from many of his peers. At 6ft 5in, he uses his height and reach effectively, often keeping opponents at bay with a sharp jab and disciplined footwork. His transition from super-middleweight to cruiserweight has appeared seamless, with added power and durability evident in recent outings.

Now training in the same gym that once shaped the likes of Tyson Fury and Hatton himself, Hedges is expected to take a more aggressive approach under his new trainer. Hatton's focus on body work, pressure, and ring intelligence could complement Hedges’ natural attributes and help unlock another level of performance. The move has already generated excitement among British boxing fans, many of whom are eager to see how Hedges progresses under Hatton’s tutelage. With his unbeaten record intact and a new team around him, The Gentleman looks set for a big year ahead as he eyes domestic titles and beyond in the cruiserweight division.
