Ryan Garcia has reignited his rivalry with Gervonta Davis, calling for a rematch to avenge the loss in the first fight.

Garcia experienced his first loss after Davis stopped him in the seventh round with a body shot during their lightweight encounter. However, Garcia said he was weight-drained due to the stipulations. He was required to abide by a 136-pound catchweight and a ten-pound rehydration clause. There were also leaks that Garcia suffered an injury during his training camp. Since then, Garcia has had a tough time.

Ryan won his next fight against Oscar Duarte in 2023. However, a no-contest against Devin Haney followed last year. Ryan’s majority decision win was overturned after he failed VADA tests for Ostarine. A one-year ban followed, but he lost to Rolando Romero on his return in May. Garcia, however, has been given a shot at winning a belt. He is expected to face WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios on February 21.

As for Davis, his recent form is no better. He is coming off a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach in March. Most of the boxing community had him losing, but the referee’s failure to give Roach a 10-8 round once Tank took a voluntary knee in the ninth meant Roach was denied a win.

Garcia Reacts

Davis was then scheduled to face Jake Paul on November 14. However, it was called off following Davis’ civil lawsuit filed by an ex-partner alleged battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping. There were also suggestions the fight was struggling to sell. While Garcia is currently focused on the welterweight division, he is still keen to run things back. That would require Tank to move up, or compete at a catchweight, as Garcia is unlikely to come back down in weight.

“To be real there hasn’t been a fight like my fight with Gervonta. We brought OG super fight back for one night. I want to do another one like that,” Garcia said

The problem that Garcia may face is that Tank’s focus is elsewhere. He recently revealed that he is dealing with a knee injury. Once he returns, he has suggested running things back with Isaac Cruz. Davis beat Cruz in 2021, but the latter was the first man to take Tank the distance. Davis also revealed that he injured his left hand during the fight. He has now set his sights on a rematch. Although that would struggle to sell, facing someone like Davis offers a big payday. So there are still some hurdles Garcia would face to get the rematch.
