Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Rolly Romero Engage in Heated Social Media Feud

Boxing is a unique sport compared to sports with seasonal schedules like basketball, football, and baseball due to the fact that fighters only compete a few times a year, if that. The time spent between their bouts typically consists of time in the gym as well as extracurricular activities. To get a fight booked, fighters and their management teams must first undergo rounds of negotiations to secure contracts and maximize profit for the few competitions they have throughout the year.

In the age of social media, however, it seems boxers are in the public eye mostly for their talking rather than their performances in the ring.

This past week, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Rolly Romero all engaged in a war not within the ring, but on social media, as they revealed the multiple fight deals and negotiations taking place between them while hurling insults.

King Ryan and Devin Haney Go at It

It all started when Garcia kicked off the trashtalk with this post on X:

Haney responded to Garcia’s callout:

Haney’s response was a dig at their first matchup, a fight that would have been considered a win on Ryan’s resume, until the result was overturned due to Garcia testing positive for Ostarine, a banned substance in boxing.

After the two verbally agreed online to a rematch, Garcia then posted a fanmade poster:

Garcia and Haney also gave fans a glimpse into what the preemptive private messages were like:

Garcia let off an insulting post, calling out Haney for what he perceives to be cowardice.

He wrote on X, “Devin clearly letting the fear get to him. He’s delusional. In what world does he think he has any say? In his heart, he knows he lost that fight bc I’m the better fighter, he can’t get himself to be truthful to himself about our fight. Probably won’t happen because he’s a b—; there’s [no] other excuse.”

“If you are so sure you would’ve won, you would take the fight,” he continued. “You won’t bc you are a b—, simple. Knocked you down 3 times. The next time you get dropped, you’ll wake up connected to an IV and doctors monitoring you.”

Haney responded to Garcia’s rant, posting, “I fear no one or nothing but Allah SWT.”

Rolly Joins the Fray

Now, while all of this was happening, Rolando “Rolly” Romero called out Ryan for ducking him, especially since he was the last person to beat Garcia (via Rolly on X):'

He followed up with another post on X, saying, “Ryan knows if he actually threw punches with me, he knows he’d get knocked out cold.”

He also called out Ryan for testing positive for PEDs, while sending subtle shots at Haney:

When a fan suggested he should fight Haney rather than chase a rematch with Ryan, Rolly responded by insulting Haney:

This insult from Rolly refers to when Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia for using PEDs.

Haney, however, fired back at Rolly, claiming, “We could’ve made this fight months ago.. now u desperate.”

Rolly responded, “Oh, now that I called your bluff, you wanna run away? So much for the big tough guy act. Sign the contract.”

Haney responded, “What contract? Rolly STFU.”

Rolly, however, revealed that his manager reached out to Devin’s father.

This prompted a response from Haney, who fired back with a post saying, “Yeah, when a real ‘Contract’ is actually sent, dumba—! F— u & ur manager! U made up all these reasons not to fight me, so now stand on it! Go find that mandatory.”

Despite the choice words, Haney did confirm that negotiations were underway, posting, “My father spoke with Luis (Rolly's manager), rumors are true.. let’s see if we can get this done inshaAllah.”

Haney addressed the news of negotiations on an appearance on Inside the Ring:

It seems the beef will continue until these men meet in the ring. According to the most up-to-date information, Romero vs. Haney is currently the most likely fight to happen soon. We will see in the coming weeks whether or not negotiations succeed in booking a fight, or if either fighter will revisit a rematch with Ryan Garcia.
