Romero is coming off a 10-round decision win over Manuel Jaimes in September. Romero needs a signature win to get back into contention for another run at a title But if he can upset Garcia then his career will be back on the upswing again. On the undercard Garcia’s next opponent in October, Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will fight against Jose Ramirez.
Ramirez is a former unified super lightweight champion, who recently loss his title to Arnold Barboza Jr. on November’s Gilberto Ramirez vs. Chris Billam-Smith undercard in Riyadh. Defeating Haney would definitely get him back into title contention immediately. But the expected result is that both Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney should win their bouts and be all clear for their rematch. But when it comes to boxing, surprises do happen.
Just when you think that’s all for a solid fight card. Power punching heavyweight Martin Bakole (21-1, 16 KOs) will be fighting in a IBF final eliminator at heavyweight vs Efe Ajagba (20-1, 14 KOs). The winner will land a title shot against the winner of the Daniel Dubois vs. Joseph Parker IBF title fight on Feb. 22. But most likely they’ll have to wait because if Dubois wins then he’s going right after Oleksandr Usyk.
