Ryan Garcia last time in the ring was thought to be his best performance up to date. He absolutely whipped Devin Haney and knocked him down multiple times. That performance was the showing that boxing fans were waiting for from Garcia. But that glory wouldn’t be lived long as the New York Boxing Commission suspended Garcia for performance enhancement drugs. Despite Garcia maintaining his innocence, he received a one year ban from the sport. The fight decision was overturned to a no contest. This week the New York State Athletic Commission lifted Garcia’s suspension.

Public opinion about Garcia never seemed to doom him. Fans are well aware that he tested dirty but they still think that in the fashion of him beating down Haney it would have occurred with or without PEDS. Fans will get a chance to see if that’s actually true or not in the near future. Haney and Garcia had agreed to a rematch if both fighters win their warm up match before scheduled on May 2nd. Garcia will be fighting former Junior welterweight champion Ronaldo “Rolly” Romero for the WBA “Regular” Welterweight belt and Haney will be fighting Jose Ramirez.

Ryan Garcia’s star power still looks as steady as it was before the Haney fight. Delivering another great performance against Romero would create a huge buzz in the rematch. That buzz will create more money for both fighters and a great opportunity for the winner to be in a prime position and get bigger fights down the road. In an interview with DAZN Boxing, Garcia was asked which fight he wants the most and he has his eyes on a rematch. “I would want a rematch with Gervonta “Tank” Davis.”

Megastar Potential

Garcia is the one with the potential to have an Oscar De La Hoya type following. He’s not the Golden Boy but a lot of people know his name on social media and for that reason alone he still has a huge chance to be huge. Fans still love him and are waiting to see him fight. If he’s able to take advantage of this second chance that he’s getting, the sky is the limit for him.
