Ryan Garcia has enrolled in VADA and completed his initial WBC 14-day weight check ahead of his February 21 fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
The WBC mandates a series of structured weigh-ins leading up to a title fight to ensure athlete safety and fair play. On February 12, the sanctioning body confirmed both fighters are safely within the 5% margin allowed two weeks out:
| Fighter | Weight Recorded | WBC 14-Day Limit |
| Mario Barrios | 153.0 lbs | 155.0 lbs |
| Ryan Garcia | 154.2 lbs | 155.0 lbs |
This successful weight check is significant for Garcia, who missed weight by over three pounds for his 2024 bout with Devin Haney. Following a one-year suspension that expired in April 2025 due to a positive test for Ostarine after the Haney win which then became a no-contest, Garcia’s reputation suffered. However, Garcia recently took to social media to share documentation of his early enrollment in VADA testing for this camp.
“I wasn’t going to speak on this bc it’s ridiculous, but I seen parts of the media claiming I’m not tested by VADA, which is extremely untrue. I’ve been tested this whole camp, and I’m sure so has Mario Barrios,” Garcia said
And yet, Haney says a rematch is off due to Ryan’s alleged non VADA compliance with 365 VADA testing
“Ship sailed when he dropped outta VADA testing,” Haney stated
Despite this Garcia has been fined after reports he failed to meet the initial deadline, resulting in a $5,000 fine.
“Ryan Garcia’s 14-day weight check was supposed to be received this past Saturday, February 7. Champion Barrios did comply with the video of this mandatory safety rule. The WBC hereby imposes a $5000 (five thousand dollars) fine for non-compliance. We expect to receive the weight video either today or first thing tomorrow morning depending on his training schedule. If we do not receive this video by then, we will be making a press statement and will contact the boxing commission with this concern,” Mauricio Sulaiman (WBC Pesident) said
