The latest Matchroom Boxing card hosts a female clash as former unified welterweight champion Sandy Ryan vs Jade Grierson in a 10-round battle at welterweight.
Ryan (7-3-1, 3 KO’s) has endured a rollercoaster run recently. After capturing the WBO welterweight title in 2023, she lost it in March 2025 when Mikaela Mayer outpointed her over 10 rounds. That defeat exposed some tactical flaws but also showed Ryan’s toughness.
Grierson (5-0-1, 2 KO’s), meanwhile, is still writing her early career chapters. She burst onto the scene with a third-round TKO of Ester Konecna in 2022 and has steadily built a 5-0-1 record. However, her level of opposition has been modest compared to Ryan’s.
Sandy Ryan – Odds 1.05
Record: 7-3-1, 3 KO’s
Age: 31
Height: 5ft8
Reach: 67”
Weight: Welterweight
Stance: Orthodox
Jade Grierson – Odds 13.00
Record: 5-0-1, 2 KO’s
Age: 34
Height: 5ft7
Reach: 67”
Weight: Welterweight
Stance: Orthodox
Ryan is slightly younger, with a marginal height advantage and a track record against world-class opposition. Grierson, though unbeaten, enters with far less experience but carries the confidence of an undefeated record. However, that know-how and experience will be the key factor in this one.
Grierson’s durability and composure have impressed observers, but this represents a huge step up in class against a former unified welterweight champion in Ryan.
At her best, Ryan maintains discipline and avoids getting dragged into brawls. Against Mayer, however, she was outworked and hustled, suggesting that volume punchers can trouble her.
Grierson is less polished but gritty. She applies steady pressure, looks to land overhand rights, and isn’t afraid to exchange. The concern for her is defence because her guard has looked leaky at times and she can get punished here if she does not fight smartly.
Ryan will likely dominate proceedings with her jab, cleaner shot selection, and superior ring craft to the inexperienced but game approach of Grierson.
Grierson is tough and has yet to taste defeat, suggesting she may survive the distance even if outclassed. Still, if Ryan seeks to make a statement after her world-title loss, a late stoppage between rounds 7–10 could be worth a small punt.
That being said, my play for this one is Sandy Ryan to win by decision or technical decision at odds of 2.38. Ryan should get the better of almost every exchange, but Grierson will have moments to smother her and sit on her chest, similar to the way Mayer did. Granted, she isn’t on the level of Mayer, but Grierson is as tough as they come.
