Savannah Marshall takes on Shadasia Green on July 11 in New York, with Marshall’s super-middleweight IBF belt and Green’s WBO title both on the line. This bout was supposed to happen a few years ago, and now we finally get to see these two power punchers clash.

Originally set to take place in 2023, Marshall (13-1, 10 KO’s) was forced to withdraw due to injury, allowing Green to claim the WBO title in the meantime. Since Marshall’s win over Franchon Crews-Dezurn a full two years ago, the Brit has been out of action, thus raising questions about ring rust.

In contrast, Green (15-1, 11 KO’s) has remained active, fighting multiple times since Marshall’s last outing. Her recent victory over Melinda Watpool was dominant and showed her ability to go the distance as well as land power shots even in the later rounds.

Savannah Marshall vs Shadasia Green: Analysis

Both fighters boast serious knockout power, with a combined 21 KO’s in 28 professional wins. Marshall is known for her patient, clinical style, where she breaks opponents down with precise punching from range. She’s very long for the weight class and has excellent timing, though she tends to build into fights rather than start fast. Plus, there are doubts over her cardio down the stretch in competitive fights.

Green is a powerhouse. Her aggression and high-output style can overwhelm opponents early, and she’s not afraid to take risks to land heavy shots. While she’s slightly shorter than Marshall, her explosiveness in close range could be the key here as the Brit has been known to open herself up in the pocket, which cost her against Claressa Shields.

Marshall vs Green: Prediction & Betting Tips

The key question in this one for me is: can Shadasia Green close the distance before Savannah Marshall gets into rhythm? And, can the American drain the Brit’s tank early and take advantage of that down the stretch?

This is a genuine 50/50 fight between two world-class operators. Green’s activity and power make her dangerous, especially early. Equally, Marshall can bang with the best of them as well. Green has been the more active fighter in recent years, but Marshall hasn’t exactly been a ‘couch potato’ during her layoff.

I personally don’t see why the odds are so wide in the favour of Savannah Marshall. Shadasia Green has the style to cause her tons of problems if she has ring rust and also fades late on. Meanwhile, Marshall has the power, accuracy and size to break the American down.

I think the smart play here is: fight does not go the distance at odds of 3.75.
