Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) is currently on the quest for the 140 lb title against defending champion Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs). As the January 31 showdown at Madison Square Gardens draws closer, Stevenson is not just certain about his victory; he wants to show the world why he is the best to do it.

Talking to Andre Ward and Roy Jones Jr. on All the Smoke Fight, Stevenson opened up about his preparation and mindset ahead of the Lopez fight.

“I’ve been feeling good. I’ve been sharp, I’ve been focused. Training camp going well, so now we just wait on the day. I’m ready, I’m definitely coming to shock the world,” he said.

It could be said that Stevenson already has some experience fighting Lopez, as the duo had previously sparred with each other. While he admits that it wasn’t really too much to gauge from, it certainly gave him enough to deduce that Lopez wouldn’t be able to beat him.

Stevenson mentioned that Lopez is a flashy fighter. He is an exceptional fighter, but he also makes a lot of basic mistakes. And these are those mistakes that Stevenson is looking forward to capitalizing on during fight night.

“I’m competitive, bro. So, it’s like I want to be the best. So when I see certain guys and I seen Teo’s last fight, I was there front row, I was like ‘damn this dude is like a baby Roy (Jones Jr).’ I thought it was cool, so it kind of made me want to get in the ring with him to see if he could do them things against my style,” he said.

“He Had Problems”

Stevenson certainly knows that one kink in Lopez’s armour that he’s going to take advantage of, and from what he said during the interview, he surely isn’t going to go easy.

“We all know that he had problems with people that move around the ring. He wants people to stand in front of him, and he can pick them apart when you stand right there in front of him. But I plan on, I’m not going to say the game plan, but I plan on doing a little bit of both,” he said. “I don’t plan on just moving around, I don’t plan on just standing in front. I plan on doing everything that it takes to win.”
