Shakur Stevenson has established himself as a pound-for-pound star, as he remains undefeated in his 24-fight career.
Coming off of a victory over William Zepeda, the 28-year-old maintained his reign at 135 lbs, making his third title defense.
The lightweight division is the third weight class that Stevenson has conquered, as he also claimed belts at featherweight and super featherweight.
Eager to cement his legacy in the weight class, Stevenson has said the opponents he wants to face in his next three fights.
The lightweight division is one that has plenty of top contenders looking for an opportunity for the title. However, with champions such as Stevenson and Gervonta Davis, becoming a champion is not an easy feat.
In a recent interview with Nightcap, Stevenson was asked what opponents he would like to face in order to cement his legacy in the division.
For the first two names, Stevenson seemingly had no hesitation in saying, “I’ll take Tank, Lamont.”
‘Tank’ Davis and Lamont Roach fought to a draw in March, as the pair met in New York. Despite the inconclusive nature of the result, a rematch between Davis and Roach is still not confirmed.
Stevenson and Davis is a fight that combat sports fans have been calling for some time now. However, with ‘Tank’ teasing retirement, it is unclear whether the two unbeaten fighters will square off.
There was some hesitation for Stevenson when it came to the third name to mention. After brief thought, Stevenson said, “I like Andy Cruz.”
Andy Cruz is a former Olympic rival of Keyshawn Davis, and currently has a record of 6-0 as a professional.
Stevenson said that “I like the best fights, and the most competitive fights. I think those guys are the three most competitive guys [I could fight].”
Although Stevenson is aiming for a potential fight with Roach, he also gave the fighter credit.
Speaking on the 25-1-2 fighter, Stevenson said, “I think Lamont is very underrated… People don’t realize how good he really is.”
The WBC World Lightweight champion also revealed that he enlisted the help of Roach for his fight with Oscar Valdez. “I made Lamont Roach my main sparring partner and he kind of got me ready for that fight.”
Although Stevenson said that he’s ‘cool’ with Roach, he reiterated his desires to face him in a professional bout. “I would love to fight him, though.”
