Shakur Stevenson Recalls Getting His ‘Worst A** Whooping’
Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Three-division world champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) is currently one of the most promising names in the world of boxing. While he has an impressive undefeated professional boxing record under his belt, there was a particular incident that made him question his future in the sport. In a resurfaced video, Stevenson recalled how Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) gave him his “worst a** whooping” yet.

Stevenson was a guest on the Last Stand Podcast hosted by Brian Custer. In conversation, he recalled the training session where, as a 17-year-old, he was pitted against the then-rising champ, Crawford. “When I was, I want to say, seventeen, I go pull up on him. So I was like, ‘Yo, you going to give me some rounds?’ And this was one of the times that I had to actually learn that I am not the best!” he said.

Stevenson further mentioned that the duo only sparred for two or three four-minute rounds. However, at that level, he was no match for Crawford’s boxing prowess. “Man, this dude beat me up so bad! I swear to God that was the worst a** whooping I ever had as a fighter!” he said.

“Let Everything Play Out”

Stevenson has long been chasing a unification fight against either Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) or Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs). On the other hand, Crawford had a few words of advice for Stevenson to land a Lomachenko or Davis fight.

“I just tell him they take time to make those types of fights, especially when the guys are on two different playing fields, one Top Rank and one signed with Al Haymon [Premier Boxing Champions], and they’re not doing business right now,”he said. Crawford added that he should wait it out and let everything fall in place.

“So you just got to be smart and let everything play out and pan out how it’s going to. Everything else will fall in place,”he said.
