According to a recent court filing. Julio César Chávez Jr. is accused of acting in service of Néstor Ernesto Pérez Salas, also known as “El Nini”, a high-ranking figure in the Sinaloa cartel. The document alleges that Chávez Jr. participated in the torture and abuse of rival gang members. Under direct orders from Salas.
The filing describes brutal scenes where victims were tied up and hanged from ceilings, while Chávez was instructed to beat them like punchbags, mimicking boxing drills he used during training. The alleged acts were carried out in cartel-controlled safe houses.
Chávez Jr. is also noted to have married the mother of a granddaughter of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Further linking him to one of Mexico’s most powerful drug trafficking families.
These are serious and deeply disturbing allegations that place the former Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the center of cartel violence and human rights abuses. As of now, Chávez Jr. has not issued a public statement regarding the court’s claims.

After Chávez’s arrest, Tricia McLaughlin, the assistant secretary of the DHS, criticized the Biden administration for not expelling or detaining him, despite an active arrest warrant for trafficking guns, ammunition and explosives.
“It is shocking the previous administration flagged this criminal illegal alien as a public safety threat but chose to not prioritize his removal and let him leave and come back into our country,” she said in a statement.
McLaughlin’s statement said Chávez’s status as a “world-famous” athlete meant nothing to the Trump administration.
“Our message to any cartel affiliates in the US is clear. We will find you and you will face consequences,” the statement said. “The days of unchecked cartel violence are over.”
