On Saturday night, boxing returns to the island of Puerto Rico as Salita Promotions and DAZN host an IBF super lightweight title eliminator. Former world champion Subriel Matias (21-2, 21 KOs) looks to get back in the title mix but must first get past Gabriel Valenzuela (30-3-1, 17 KOs) from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
In June 2024, Matias lost his IBF title to Liam Paro, who would later lose it to Richardson Hitchins , the current IBF champion. Matias scored a second-round TKO in November, which has led to this title eliminator. Valenzuela’s claim to fame came as he lost a narrow decision, which many in the media felt he should have won, against Montana Love in 2022. Since then, he has fought three times in 2023 and twice last year. Now he has the opportunity to get a title shot against Hitchins, but he must first beat Matias to do so.
Per DraftKings SportsBook, Subriel Matias is the favorite at -340, and Gabriel Valenzuela is the underdog at +255.
These timings could change due to the length of the undercard fights.
