Josh Taylor and Ekow Essuman held their final presser ahead of their May 24 welterweight clash.

Taylor has his first fight at welterweight, having lost his last two fights at 140. Taylor suffered a defeat to Teofimo Lopez, which cost him his WBO Junior Welterweight Title. Taylor had the chance to silence his critics against Jack Catterall in their rematch. Many felt Taylor had lost the first clash, as he escaped with a split decision win. This time around, Catterall gained his revenge via a unanimous decision. Taylor still has the desire to become a two-weight world champion, meaning he must get past Essuman. However, Taylor has also not ruled out a third fight with Catterall.

“I was ready to go for a third one but they weren’t interested because they thought he was going to get a world title, but he got beat by [Arnold Barboza Jr.]. I’m on my own path now. I’m looking to become a two-weight world champion. If the fight comes back around and it’s tasty enough in terms of numbers wise, then I’ll entertain it because it’s one apiece and it would be good to settle the score,” Taylor stated

Meanwhile, Essuman has a  21-1-0 record. His only loss came against Harry Scarff back in 2023. He arrives into the Taylor clash with a majority decision victory against Ben Vaughan. Taylor is his biggest test, with both boxers ready for the clash.
