Teofimo Lopez coasted to a unanimous decision win over Arnold Barboza Jr. to retain his WBO Junior Welterweight Belt.
Lopez started on the front foot, connecting with a right hand upstairs. The Takeover followed up with a left to Barboza’s midsection to push him backwards. Teo continued the momentum in the second with a right over the top towards the head. Barboza reacted well with a left and a right hand in a better response. Teo switched things up again with a left hook on the counter, followed by a right uppercut in a strong third round. Lopez was in control, with Barboza needing to change things up.
He did find some success in round six. Barboza connected with a right hand that cut Teo near his left eye. That woke Lopez up, who landed a left in the seventh. Teo was now hitting Barboza at will, without the need to over-commit himself. Barboza had to find something out of the ordinary to turn the course of this fight. He could not, as Teo coasted to a decision win. After his win, Teo said he wanted the WBA, IBF, and Ring Magazine Welterweight Champion Jaron Ennis next.
“I feel great. I feel reborn. And at 140,, I been at this weight for some time now. But we’ll talk about, me and my time, about going up, maybe. You know me, guys. I go after the tough challenges. … I’m Dora The Explorer, and I’m looking for Boots,” Lopez said
“It’s a shutout, I have never seen him look like this before, he has improved as a fighter. Fast hands. Listen, all these guys are going to have to show off tonight, and this is how to do it,” Mike Tyson stated
