For nearly five years Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) and Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) were locked in a battle for supremacy, with fans split on who truly ruled the 147 pound division. When the two finally met, it was Crawford who left no doubt. Absolutely dominating from start to finish and forcing a ninth-round stoppage.
Spence hasn’t fought since that night, slipping from the public spotlight. But Crawford, now deep in training for his September 13 super fight against Canelo Álvarez at Allegiant Stadium, hasn’t forgotten the fighter Spence once was.
“I’ll give him a 10,” Crawford told The Ring when asked to rate Spence.
While Crawford is focused on moving up two weight classes to challenge Álvarez, he reflected on Spence’s career leading into their clash. The Omaha native made it clear that his dominant victory doesn’t diminish Spence’s legacy.
“He was an undefeated, unified world champion, running through all the welterweights that were put in front of him. He beat a few champions at that. I give him a 10.”
Their fight, widely expected to be competitive, turned into a showcase for Crawford’s skill and power. Still, he doesn’t believe Spence needs to defend himself online or respond to critics. In his view, anyone who studies Spence’s résumé will see a decorated champion who faced and defeated some of the best in the division.
As Crawford attempts to join the rare company of fighters who’ve won undisputed championships in three weight classes Spence’s future remains uncertain. Whether he returns at welterweight, moves up in weight, or walks away from the sport entirely, his career accomplishments have the respect of the man who beat him at his peak.

Once again it has been 744 days since Errol Spence Jr. has last fought. He claims that he’s coming back on his own time. That guy is done, but over two years of inactivity. I think he’s done with the sport at this point.
