Terence Crawford vows to become an undisputed two-weight world champion

After years of failed negotiations, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. will finally step inside the boxing ring with the undisputed welterweight title up for grabs.

During a press conference held in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Crawford expressed his belief that becoming a two-weight undisputed world champion, a feat that has yet to be achieved by any boxer, would establish him as the premier fighter of this generation, leaving no doubt in his claim to greatness.

“I will be the first male boxer to [win undisputed titles] in two divisions and that would solidify me as the greatest fighter of this era.”

Spence quickly shot down the idea by downplaying Crawford’s 39-0 resume.

“Definitely not man…you ain’t fought nobody man, you haven't beat anybody undisputed at 140 [pounds],” Spence said.

The highly-anticipated contest between Crawford and Spence is the latest super-fight between two undefeated fighters to materialize in 2023, following the much-hyped bout between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.

Superfights, like Crawford vs. Spence, elevates boxing by attracting a wider audience to the sport, generating significant revenue and leaving a lasting impact on the sport's history.

In his last outing, Spence (28-0) successfully defended the IBF and WBC titles and captured the WBA (super) welterweight title with a TKO win over Yordenis Ugás in April 2022.

Crawford, who currently holds the WBO title, will look to add the three other welterweight belts, including the IBF, WBC and WBA, to his collection.

The long-awaited unification title fight will take place on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
