On July 5 at the AO Arena in Manchester, England, Jack Catterall defeated Harlem Eubank by technical decision. The fight was stopped by the referee, on advice of the ringside physician. After the fight, Eubank demanded a rematch, but it seems Team Catterall is looking in a different direction. Here, we explore three realistic options for Jack Catterall next fight.
The fight between Catterall (31-2, 13 KOs) and Eubank (21-1, 9 KOs) was low action, to put it mildly. The clash of heads was nasty, with Catterall coming off worse, but the ringside physician seemed to deem Eubank unable to continue. The fight itself had very few talking points, but the cleaner punches came from Catterall, who deserved the victory. The judges’ scorecards read 69-65 and 69-66 x2.
One potential next option for Catterall could be Ekow Essuman (22-1, 8 KOs), who is ranked highly with the WBO. Essuman is a come-forward fighter who recently defeated Josh Taylor. This type of fighter should bring out the best of Catterall – and see him shine with his fast hands and sharp counter punching.
On March 1, at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Paddy Donovan was cruising to victory against Lewis Crocker (21-0, 11 KOs), before “The Real Deal” scored a knockdown. Both men exchanged heavy shots on the ropes, and Donovan landed a massive punch after the bell. Referee Marcus McDonnell ruled it one infraction too many, disqualifying Donovan.
Following Jaron Ennis’ decision to move up in weight and vacate his IBF welterweight title, the planned rematch between Donovan and Crocker will be for the vacated IBF crown. With all fighters under the Matchroom Boxing banner, the winner of the planned rematch vs Catterall should be a realistic option for the Chorley fighter.
Another option for Jack Catterall next fight could be Raul Curiel (16-0-1, 14 KOs). Matchroom vs Golden Boy would provide an extra layer of intrigue. Could it potentially land on a 5v5 event?
Curiel is a powerful puncher who looks to control his opponents. He would undoubtedly present a challenging puzzle for the Brit to solve. Catterall will need to punch in between Curiel and make him second-guess throwing combinations. A fight between these two before moving on to a world title shot in 2026 seems a realistic option for Catterall.
