Keith Thurman is planning a one-punch finish for his expected fight against WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora.

Thurman expressed a desire to move away from the defensive movement that has characterized his recent outings. He plans to implement a more direct focus on body work to slow down the 6-foot-5 Fundora. The matchup, which would be Thurman’s first shot at a 154-pound world title, has faced significant delays. The fight was first set for October 25, 2025. The bout was scrapped after Fundora suffered a hand injury during a sparring session.

While a specific date and venue have not been finalized, both camps have been working toward an early 2026 window. Thurman is fighting against both Fundora and the clock. His recent career has been defined by extreme inactivity, having fought only twice in the last seven years—a decision win over Mario Barrios in 2022 and a third-round TKO of Brock Jarvis in March 2025.

Thurman Reacts

And yet, Thurman recently noted that he feels “reinvigorated” at the higher weight class and believes he still has anywhere from three to ten fights left in his career. Meanwhile, Fundora is also coming off a layoff but remains the man to beat at junior middleweight following his seventh-round TKO victory in his rematch with Tim Tszyu last July. Thurman has warned his critics of what to expect.

“You got 12 rounds to take care of this boy. And remind the people why you have the name Keith “One Time” Thurman. You know, so I’m definitely looking for that knockout. And you know how it is. Short term memory, baby. I create a new highlight reel, and then, you know, everyone is just going to be like yo, look what Thurman just did. And that’s all that matters. So you are asking babe ruth to step to the plate and hit one more home run? You know how many home runs I’ve hit? All I gotta do is hit one more home run. That’s all the motivation I need, man,” Thurman said
