Topps, the trading card and other collectibles company based out of New York City, has added to its growing portfolio with a huge announcement that was sent out on social media on Thursday.

Topps will begin taking pre-orders on August 11 for a boxing collection they have named “Topps Chrome Boxing.” On their Instagram page, the caption read “JUST IN: Our first boxing trading card set since 1951 is here. Topps Chrome Boxing features legends, rookies & stars, and is the first boxing release in history to be officially licensed by multiple boxing promotions. Available for pre-order on August 11. UPDATE: Gervonta Davis will not be included in this collection.

The last sentence about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis was added in there after a picture of his card began to circulate on social media. That image has since been pulled down, likely due to the deal not being completed with Davis. The Topps Chrome Collection will feature 8 cards per pack, 12 packs per box, and 12 boxes per case.

This will be the first collection since 1951, which was a 96-card set with names like Rocky Marciano , John L. Sullivan, and Joe Lewis, just to name a few. A source within Topps had this to say to FightsATW about the release.

“First boxing release in history to officially be licensed by multiple boxing Promotions (Most Valuable Promotions, Matchroom Boxing, Top Rank Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions). Historically, individual Promotions would have their own card deals. This is Topps’ first boxing product since 1951. (We have had Topps Now, but not a hobby product.) Some great autographs, including Tyson Fury, Mike Tyson, Ryan Garcia, Dmitry Bivol, as well as legendary autographs including Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, with some big names to come.”

These are exciting times as Topps has evolved and made purchasing trading cards cool again. With the addition of WWE and the UFC in recent years, trading cards are once again a hot commodity, with trending videos all over social media from celebrities opening their packages to see what cards they received, posting daily. Further details are tight-lipped, but as information continues to be provided by Topps, FightsATW will keep providing updates.
