Turki Alalshikh is turning a traditionally one night boxing event into a multi day talent showcase. By stretching the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford super fight across two to three days. Alalshikh is essentially creating a mini boxing festival leading up to the main event on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium. The idea of having an fight festival has certainly raised some eyebrows across the boxing community.

Turki Alalshikh wants new and fresh talent to emerge. “The undercard will be between two or three days,“ Alalshikh said on The Ring’s YouTube channel with Rick Reeno and Mike Coppinger. “We now have more than 20 fights to do on the undercard. Ninety five percent of this card is talent and people around the world have a very big chance to be a star in the future.”

Great idea?

Never before have we ever had an undercard that would serve as a festival of events leading up to a main card. As intriguing as it sounds to have showcases of up and coming fighters who eventually will be headlining major fights themselves. To give the public an opportunity to get familiar with these faces that they’re not completely familiar with. But one has to ask, is having too much of a good thing an actual bad thing? Nevertheless, I do like Turki idea of being able to get more familiar with the up and coming talent. It’s a very intriguing idea and let’s see if it would actually get the green light and become official.
