Saudi Arabia has become the home of big boxing matches after an investment of millions of dollars in the last two years.
Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, is the man who has made all this happen. Turki has been making offers that are hard to refuse. With that said, this has provided us with some of the greatest fights in the last two years and a Riyadh Season to add to it.
There have been some notable matchups along the way, including huge fights such as Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk and Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol, which have been met with dismay by boxing fans and the community.
For this to be possible, there have also been some disappointments in some performances in the ring, and this has not gone unnoticed by fans and the boxing community at large.
With the amount of money that has been invested in the fights happening, Turki has decided not to hold back and has given his opinion from this point going forward. The boxing promoter decided to go to his X account and issued a stern warning to the boxers who have graced our screens and provided us with stinkers after months of preparations and huge expectations.
“From this point on, I don’t want to see any more Tom and Jerry-type boxing matches where one fighter is running around the ring and the other is chasing him. We can no longer support these kinds of fights with Riyadh Season and The Ring. We want to support fighters who leave it all in the ring and fight with heart and pride,” posted Turki Alalshikh on his X account.
This warning has fans excited as we wait for the Usyk vs Dubois and Canelo vs Crawford as the boxers will now have to perform to the required standards and not just show up in the ring for huge paydays.
