Tyson Fury’s latest retirement didn’t last long. The former heavyweight world champion is officially set to return to the ring on April 11, when he faces hard-hitting Russian contender Arslanbek Makhmudov in a heavyweight bout to be held in the United Kingdom.
The fight was announced Wednesday by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. The event will be promoted by The Ring and streamed live on Netflix, marking another major step in the platform’s expansion into live boxing.
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), who announced his most recent retirement in January 2025 following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk, confirmed earlier this month that he was preparing a comeback. On Wednesday, that return became official.
“Excited to be back,” Fury said. “Heart’s always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back!”
While the bout is confirmed for the U.K., an exact venue has not yet been announced.

Fury’s return follows a familiar arc in his career. After defeating Derek Chisora for the third time in December 2022 to defend his WBC title. Fury shifted his focus overseas, fighting exclusively in Saudi Arabia over his next three bouts.
That run included a controversial points win over Francis Ngannou in October 2023, followed by back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in May and December 2024. Those defeats ended Fury’s reign at the top of the division and crowned Usyk as the first undisputed heavyweight champion of boxing’s four-belt era.
Fury announced his retirement shortly after the second Usyk fight a decision that, in hindsight, proved temporary once again.
Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs), a Russian-born heavyweight based in Canada. Has long been regarded as one of the division’s most dangerous punchers. He was rumored late last year to be in line for a high-profile opportunity after stopping British veteran Dave Allen in October.
That performance helped position Makhmudov as a credible comeback opponent for Fury a physically imposing heavyweight with knockout power, but without the elite resume of the division’s very top names.
The bout will also make history outside the ring. Fury vs. Makhmudov will be the first live sporting event staged in the U.K. to be broadcast by Netflix. Further solidifying the streamer’s growing footprint in combat sports.
In addition to airing the fight. Netflix will continue filming Fury and his family for the second season of At Home with the Furys. Which is scheduled for release later this year. The crossover between Fury’s boxing career and his off-camera persona has become an increasingly central part of his commercial appeal.
For Fury, the April return represents yet another attempt to reinsert himself into the heavyweight picture this time on home soil. Under the bright lights of a global streaming audience. Whether it’s the start of a new title push or simply another chapter in boxing’s most unpredictable career remains to be seen.
