Tyson Fury’s hopes of a comeback against Oleksandr Usyk have taken another hit after fresh comments from the undisputed champion’s camp.
Fury, who announced his retirement for the fifth time earlier this year, has since hinted at another return.
The Morecambe native is reportedly eyeing a fight with Usyk next year, despite back-to-back defeats to the 38-year-old.
But fans should temper their expectations, with a recent update suggesting another meeting between Fury and the Ukrainian is not looking likely.
Fury was beaten twice by Usyk in 2024, marking the first and second defeats of his professional career.
But with Usyk dealing with a nagging back injury recently, there has been growing uncertainty around what the undisputed champion will do next.
Now, an update from Usyk’s camp has cast further doubt on a third fight with Fury, at least in the near future.
“Theoretically, it’s an interesting option, but for whom? If boxing fans truly support it, then maybe. However, in my opinion, that chapter is already closed,” Serhii Lapin said to Ring Magazine.
Oleksandr Usyk is targeting a return in the first half of 2026 with the winner of Joseph Parker-Fabio Wardley the front-runner for a shot at the heavyweight champion, Usyk’s advisor, Serhii Lapin, tells The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger. pic.twitter.com/iVVhl107m3

Lately, Usyk seems more interested in facing either Joseph Parker or knockout artist Fabio Wardley and will no doubt be watching closely this weekend.
Anthony Joshua has been clear about wanting to fight Fury, and he is hoping it happens soon.
The Watford native is eyeing a summer matchup and plans to get back in the ring early in 2026.
Eddie Hearn, his long-time promoter, has hinted that Joshua might take a tune-up fight first. Plenty of fighters have already started calling him out, including one unexpected veteran.
