Tyson Fury has signed his end of a deal to fight Anthony Joshua this year – but it appears his rival hasn’t done the same.
Fury returned to action for the first time since December of 2024 tonight as he dominated Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But, when he called for Joshua to get in the ring and face off with him, his fellow ex-champion refused to be drawn.
What resulted was an awkward exchange as Turki Alalshikh – who had earlier in the night promised a surprise announcement – was left pleading with Eddie Hearn to get in the ring with his client. And Joshua has since insisted that his part of the deal is far from done.
Given the way that everything was positioned after Tyson Fury’s big win on Saturday night, it’s safe to say that Netflix were under the impression that promotion would begin now for a super-fight between two of the sport’s biggest names.
Anthony Joshua has been neck-and-neck with Fury as the biggest star in British boxing for years, but they have never been able to make a fight happen despite numerous close calls. And it now seems that they are closer than ever to getting it done.
Netflix’s social media team tweeted that the fight was done, with the main account explicitly writing “It’s happening. Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua. This autumn from the UK. LIVE only on Netflix.” However, that is far from what Joshua was saying at ringside.
And speaking with Seconds Out immediately following the fight, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren claimed that the deal is signed on his fighter’s end. “Tyson’s signed,” Warren replied when it was mentioned that Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn had claimed no deal was done.
“They’ve not signed, that’s what’s holding it up. I’ve got no idea, they can answer that… We’ve got to sign this first [before booking a venue].”
